TR-Electronic rotary encoders with optical or magnetic scanning precisely acquire position in steel production, wind power plants, cranes and ships as well as in explosion-proof versions in painting lines. Miniature versions ensure the correct position in medical technology and SIL3 approved absolute rotary encoders ensure the necessary safety.

The absolute rotary encoders in our product range are as varied as your individual requirements: From standard/compact rotary encoders with optical or magnetic scanning with solid shaft, hollow shaft, blind shaft or integrated coupling through SIL3/PLe certified safety encoders and absolute encoders with fully encapsulated electronics for outdoor applications, to double rotary encoders in different housing sizes and a multitude of interfaces.
We also offer a very broad range of housing options such as ATEX-compliant housings or tropicalized housings with additional “Seal Pack” sealing.

TR-Electronic compact rotary encoders with 58 mm housing are the all-rounder for countless standard industrial applications. The absolute rotary encoders in the 58mm series have a modular design, are compatible with innumerable controls and available with a multitude of shaft and mounting variants. Thanks to this enormous flexibility and individual programmability they can also meet specific requirements at all times – in terms of both function and cost efficiency.
Our absolute rotary encoders with 65 mm housing offer more room for additional functions, such as connection to field bus cables and the output of up to 4 cam signals on up to 32 cam tracks. Thus even complex control tasks in a machine module can be directly handled by the rotary encoder.

Complex sensor tasks are our challenge. We work with you to develop individual sensor solutions, which are adapted to your machine concept. For example, the rotary encoder can be integrated into existing components or provided with a housing that precisely meets your requirements. You also have the usual wide variety of options to choose from, such as type and position of the shaft, mounting variants and interfaces. For example, you can add a heating/water cooling unit or a temperature sensor to your configuration.
To ensure quick commissioning, the absolute rotary encoders are produced ready for installation. They can then be integrated into your drive motor housing without any problem. Your advantages: You get a custom-made rotary encoder system to meet even complex technical requirements, and you can commission your system very quickly thanks to the ease of installation.
Safety rotary encoders
Absolute rotary encoders for maximum safety according to SIL3 / PLe
Many applications in automation technology are subject to the highest safety requirements. By using SIL3/PLe-certified products you will achieve maximum safety in workplaces or environments that are shared by people and machines.
TR-Electronic was one of the first sensor manufacturers whose rotary encoders were certified to SIL3/PLe. Since then, our functionally safe rotary encoders have been successfully used in event technology, wind energy as well as cranes and material handling technology.
Our absolute rotary encoders with SIL3 or PLe certification (safety rotary encoders) are available in sizes from 75 mm (hollow shaft or solid shaft). Standard interfaces such as Double SSI, PROFIsafe via PROFIBUS or PROFIsafe via PROFINET, Open-Safety via Powerlink guarantee optimal safety and precision for specific applications. The ATEX-compliant housing variant offers additional protection in explosive atmospheres.
No separate modules are necessary for reliable position output, and there is no need to separately program a safety module – you couldn’t get a simpler or more cost-efficient solution.
ATEX-compliant rotary encoders
Absolute rotary encoders for explosive atmospheres
A special challenge for rotary encoders is presented by potentially explosive atmospheres, for example in transfer systems in painting lines, filling/bagging plants, in flour mills, at fuel pumps in filling stations or in geothermal energy.
As an accredited manufacturer of explosion-proof housings we offer ATEX-compliant absolute rotary encoders with housings made of aluminium or stainless steel for hygienically sensitive applications. The housings comprise a flameproof enclosure and can be used even in the highest temperature class T6 in Zones 1 (gases) and 21 (dusts). Thanks to the enormous selection of interfaces, you will find the right rotary encoder for every requirement.
Our SIL3-/PLe-certified safety rotary encoders can also be provided with explosion-proof housings. They offer the perfect combination of functional safety and explosion protection in a single rotary encoder, for use in excavating and conveying systems, for example. For lower explosion protection requirements we also offer a SIL3/PLe rotary encoder, which can be used in Zones 2 and 22

This demands particularly intelligent and robust design, as well as durable technology.
Heavy-duty absolute rotary encoders from TR-Electronic offer thick-walled housings made of aluminium or stainless steel and are equipped with heating or cooling elements if required. Depending on the application, the housings are explosion-proof according to ATEX, as well as salt and acid resistant
Double rotary encoders
Absolute rotary encoders for redundant applications
Double rotary encoders (twin encoders) are used in applications such as event technology and have two autonomous absolute rotary encoders with a common main shaft or two scanning units with a central disk.
A wide variety of housing sizes from 36 mm to 81 mm, all shaft and connection types, high resolutions and many different interface combinations fulfil all requirements. SIL3-/Ple-certified double encoders are also available for applications that demand functional safety.
